Time And Money In Trying To Return Lost Items

Today on my way home I noticed that there was an item that seemed to be left behind on a bench. Therefore, my first thought was to figure out how to return it to its rightful owner. In this case though, there isn’t any kind of name or address attached to it. So what exactly kind of options are there to try and get the item back to the person? My first thought was to simply use some kind of classified ad as there may be a small chance that the person would see it. The other options of course is to simply leave it or some people would take it for themselves.

It brings up a conversation that I have heard before on how constantly going out of your way in doing things like this can be a factor on why one isn’t as financially well off as they should be. Essentially, they spend so much of their own time and money helping others to the point that they simply drain themselves where they could be focusing on putting themselves in a better financial situation.

I just simply disagree with this notion overall. Have I lost time and money due to trying to do good deeds? Of course. Would I stop doing it? Not really. I am one to believe that at the end of the day if you have the potential ability to help someone in a reasonable way then that deed is rather priceless. Especially like in this case where for me it’s just a simple post for an ad. I know if it was the other way around I would highly appreciate it if someone tried to return the item too. Like saying too, if something costs me like one dollar but for someone else it feels like one thousand dollars then it’s almost crazy not to do it assuming it has no extreme negative effect on you.

As well, I find doing good deeds like this helps to keep you grounded. You always have to remember your roots and that we weren’t always in a fortunate position.
