Being Taught To Believe That Something Is Budget Friendly

financial literacy

This was a little surprising to me today as there were a few people talking about TV dinners. At first I thought it was going to be a topic about health but it ended up being a conversation about money. Essentially, it was believed that if you were struggling financially in life TV dinners are like the best budget friendly route to go with.

I always wonder how people have grown up to believe this. Maybe it’s just me but boxes of these TV dinner items seem to range about three dollars plus on average or so. Usually the portions are so tiny too. With three dollars here you could buy a whole whack of stuff. Example, I know that TV dinners often have like these tiny bits of mashed potatoes. You can get an actual whole potato from the store for a few cents in comparison. If you start factoring this in where there actually are some families that buy TV dinners for multiple people all that money can buy you so much at the grocery store.

If anything I would see this more as you are paying for convenience. Basically, it’s not the cheapest or the healthiest probably but it is one of the fastest solutions. But categorizing things like this as budget friendly is very odd to me. I would actually consider stuff like these as very non-budget friendly. Maybe this is why it’s good to have kids become active in say helping to shop or to prepare meals at an early age. Once you realize the other options out there it kind of opens a whole new perspective on what is exactly a good budget friendly solution.
