This headline for an article caught my attention today as it was labelled as “Young, rich and totally not buying a house” where the author is describing how he makes $130,000 per year. Instead of dumping all that money into a house he prefers to live life such as drinking expensive wine and traveling whenever he wants. It wasn’t until he mentioned that he was still living with his parents where everyone then got cynical over his “wealth” I guess you can say.
This kind of reminds me of one person I knew who kept bragging how he had like $5000 in the bank. While it’s good to save that much, I was thinking how he didn’t pay for his own food or accommodations which kind of makes that savings sound not so much in the overall picture if he was to live on his own as an example. It actually got me to think in some funny ways considering even when it comes to business a lot of people would often say they get rich by spending other people’s money. So even if they don’t have all the money and resources themselves as long as they can “run the business” that way then to them that is a “smart” way to be wealthy. So would a person like this be kind of the same except it deals purely with personal lifestyle?
I still think saying you are wealthy without actually handling all the expenses and such in this case yourself is more about being an opportunist in a sense. Example, like in this case the person saves money through his parents where instead of having to use that money for shelter they use it for like say a hundred bottle of wine. To me that is not really about financial savviness or wealth.
The person did make the point too on how even if he had to rent that means he would just need to make a little adjustment to live the same lifestyle. However, in my personal opinion this is where one would usually see so much more expenses come up as a result of having to do everything yourself. Like saying there is a price to buy a car where the person didn’t factor in all the extra expenses for things like insurance or maintenance for it.
One reason too why I am often skeptical of people who feel the needs to say they are extremely wealthy in one way or another.
