I was listening to a person speak at a workshop today and the stories he was telling were pretty hilarious. There was one example though in relation to business and money that got me thinking. Essentially, he expressed how when he began his career he would seek out all the classes and experts that he could find which meant spending thousands of dollars.
For this one class he was expressing that this lady essentially filled like a three day course with mostly filler content that didn’t really answer the burning questions that people would have in taking that workshop. It wasn’t until the very last day where apparently she revealed this so called secret to success of sorts and it was so silly. It’s like imaging going to a three day sales seminar that was priced at $1000 on how to increase your corporation’s revenue. In the very last day the person tells you the secret is to simply listen to what your customers are asking for. Literally, that’s the “secret” where the rest of the days are essentially content fillers.
That then got into a topic on how everyone can be an expert and essentially preying on others who are so desperately looking for answers. The takeaway lesson was that you have to research in-depth about the person’s credentials. It reminds me on how so many people call themselves a best-selling author nowadays. While it is true to a certain extent, their best-selling title consists of like say an e-book where it is the only book in a certain category. Like there, it sounds so prestigious until you really look into it. If you want to protect yourself from being duped like this then it’s a good idea to really look into one’s qualifications.
