I was thinking recently as there were various situations where I was looking at the hourly rates for acquiring the service and expertise of others. Basically, it’s one of those thoughts where you can either invest the time yourself to learn something or you can pay someone else to do it quickly as they are an expert. In some situations though it seemed like everyone would take pretty much the same time to do the same job except some people felt like charging an insanely high rate based solely on things such as the media exposure they have gotten in the past.
For myself anyways, I would expect the person to be able to do things better or faster if I am paying a premium rates of sort. Kind of like saying, I wouldn’t really mind paying like this one carpenter $100/hr if he can actually build that table in one hour with great quality versus someone charging like $50/hr where it would take them two hours to build the same thing. To me that makes sense.
But to pay the first guy like $300/hr with the sole notion that they are say related to someone famous per se seems a little silly financially. Unless them making it somehow is going to give you a good return of investment as an example based solely on the notion that the person made it. It makes me wonder what some people are thinking even from a business point of view at times when they have crazy rates like that yet they aren’t in demand. In some ways it’s like one is relying on one job to be all they need for the whole month.
As a general consumer though, I would always expect more if you are more if you are paying more. Paying just for like a name brand versus the quality of the item or service is just awkward when you sit and think about it.
