Today there was a new announcement from Microsoft as they unveiled its new Windows 11 operating system which will be fee to upgrade for any existing users of Windows 10. This came as a surprise to many since the company announced way back that Windows 10 was its final operating system. They even bypassed a Windows 9 technically as I suppose the number 10 sounds like a better number to end things on.
Nowadays most people either use Windows, Android or MacOS for their devices. In a lot of cases certain apps can only work with specific operating systems and companies want as many people to support their product versus the other which means more profit. So it was interesting to hear how Microsoft’s strategy is to actually support the other operating systems like Android where it will be able to run all its apps.
For example, Apple has video chat software like Facetime that is exclusive to people who use Apple products only. Microsoft has its own Team software that can be used on various platforms. With this strategy they can essentially cater to everyone. They kind of put it as well where they want to be like the worldwide web of sort for applications where people don’t have to worry about which operating system to use.
A different kind of business approach for a company who is used to just competing with everyone. It actually might work in the long run too.
