There are a lot of wireless carriers advertising phone plans in anticipation that a lot of people will need phones for schools. In a lot of cases too I am seeing people who are eager to sign up for those new plans as the ones they have don’t seem to be as good. That’s what got me thinking where a lot of these back to school plan rates are valid for two years. So once that expires the rates are actually higher than what a lot of these same people are currently using. That makes you wonder, is it truly a better deal in these cases to go from a no contract with a lifetime plan to one that would require you to renegotiate every year? In some cases the savings would be less than fifty dollars a year too it seems.
That is a good way to save money as well where each year before your contract expires start shopping around and get the benefits of retention offers as an example. That is a gamble of course where if you can’t find a better deal than what you originally had before you signed up for a new temporary price plan then you are kind of out of luck.
For myself, the deal has to be really good such as I am saving 30% off my regular bills so that the event that I don’t find a better deal after the contract then I technically have a few months before I would have broken even compared to my original plan. Most likely I would find another reasonable deal. But sometimes it is better just to have a consistent plan.
