Recently I was asked if I knew of any Apple iPad sales as someone wanted to buy one as a gift. While checking for sales it seemed like Apple had an educational discount sale targeting university students and teachers. It wasn’t much of a discount overall but any savings is better than nothing. Now I was reading comments on how there were a lot of people who just ignored the sale because they aren’t say a university student.
A lot of times when it comes to these discounts you would normally need say an ID or email address related to an educational institution to make the purchase. Because of that it would make sense to ignore it if you aren’t a student. But oddly enough, it seems like companies such as Apple don’t even check for the requirements recently where the sale is more like a form of targeted advertisement based on what the company feels is the right demographic to target currently. For example, a back to school sale or some kind of statutory holiday.
If that is the case, it makes me wonder if it is better to label the sale as something else which is more common so that a company doesn’t lose out on sales where people assume they can’t get the deal.
