One thing that I tried this year which seems to be producing results is I decided to take some of my work and create a dedicated package for them where they will target a specific audience. This is versus just offering everything under one label per se. People often say when you are small that you need to be hyper specific regarding your target audience. Otherwise, you are competing against everyone who is already established.
This seems to be the case as items that weren’t getting much attention and traction before all of a sudden is gaining popularity through word of mouth and things such as search engines have an easier time to introduce them to specific people. It does make me wonder if that would have better right from the start. The answer isn’t as clear cut because one thought is if I didn’t just do it the way I did initially I may not have gained the marketing insight in terms of what people are asking more of to know which one to break into a niche project.
Reminds of that cartoon Animaniacs before which has a line up of characters and show segments. There was one called Pink and the Brain that was apparently so popular that they made a dedicated show with those characters. Like there, it is unlikely they would have ever figured this out without just doing everything under one show at first.
But ultimately, it may be a good idea to expand in this way when you have something that seems to have bigger potential with its own spotlight.
