Selling An Illusion of Connections

So there were a lot of news recently about corruption where one thing that stuck out to me in terms of a topic that is probably fairly common whenever you are doing any kind of business are those who pitch or suggest that if you do business with them that will automatically get you onto the radar of every famous person they have connections with. This usually comes in the form of bribery where people gift individuals lavish items in hopes to get on their good side for some favours in the future.

At the same time, a lot of incidents where people say they have all these high-profile connections really don’t as it could simply be a situation such as they only met with the person once briefly or they are only related family wise and have no real contact with them. It definitely works in many cases so you can see why people do it.

I remember one funny example as a person was bragging about how many famous people he knew and that they were all paying money for his services. He hired me to help him make a site and so his connections wasn’t a big deal to me as my focus was in completing the job. At the end the cheque he gave me actually bounced. That’s not something that should ever happened with someone who is highly successful I would imagine.

That kind of put in doubts in terms of connections as well which seemed to be a selling point or him to many. But either way, you do have too verify at times where if that seems to be an item that people constantly push about themselves then there could be more to it.
