Imagine a person telling you that they are going through some tough times financially where because of various circumstances they are not sure how they are going to be able to pay the bills at the end of the month. They are then offered some financial planning advice which doesn’t seem to be resonating with them as they insist it’s just not possible. To make the whole situation more odd the person could easily manage their monthly expenses by simply making some small adjustments such as no more dining out for a while which costs them a lot. But the person simply doesn’t do it.
You can see how much they spend just with entertainment and dining out where it seemed like it equated to about 40 percent of their spending. That’s pretty significant I thought considering the person said they were in a sense poor and can’t even afford a standard lifestyle. I was thinking they live more lavish than me in many ways by dining out all the time.
It reminds me how many times we can all live a debt free life if we really wanted to. It’s just in scenarios like this we refuse to stop getting the things we can’t really afford in life yet as we all want things now. I think that’s an important factor where as long as you recognize that you can but don’t because of your choices that should make it really straight forward to turn things around if you want to. You would have thorough knowledge on how to construct a lifestyle that would suit your current income level as well because you know exactly which pieces need to be taken out or replaced to make it happen. To do that you need to be truthful to yourself about your scenario and choices.
