Rogers And Shaw Deal Approved

It seems like it is official today as Rogers buying out Shaw appears to have been approved which is generating mixed reactions as telecommunications competition in Canada isn’t that great currently. What will be interesting is how they will be forced to sell off its mobile company Freedom mobile as part of the agreement which makes me wonder how long the new company would honor existing contracts for current customers considering they do have cheaper plans that probably aren’t very profitable.

I did read time wise current customers may be given about five years or so before old plans and agreements could be terminated in which I would imagine there would be a lot of notice a head of time. I always do wonder if this is a space that can truly foster true competition as it seems like every company that has tried has been gobbled up in some way. The investment to break in doesn’t sound very cheap either if one was trying to actually build their own network.

Only time will tell in regards to how this will truly affect pricing for consumers as companies always say it will be for the better of course.
