There was a lot of buzz recently of people taking advantage of food banks in order to save money when realistically they don’t have to use it. These are meant for people in actual need versus someone trying to be frugal. One group of people are apparently international students who are bragging and making videos on how they get hundreds of dollars of free food each month by taking advantage of food banks. There are a lot of things wrong with that of course and ultimately this is an example how you shouldn’t exploit these food banks just because you want to be frugal.
Especially in these cases where if it is international students people are technically supposed to be able to financially support themselves to even be able to study abroad with these arrangements. There are so many legitimate ways to save money if you are in a fortunate position to actually have the funds to do your own shopping. Even today I was walking past some smaller grocery stores and they had everything from bags of avocados to mini watermelons for two dollars. I would see that as another reason to actually shop for your own food as well as you will then get some shopping experience on where to shop for good deals.
In some ways it would be like learning to actually fish versus finding places to steal it from. Don’t be one of those people that try to leech off the generosity of others which are meant for those who truly need it at their point in life. Especially during these times with the wildfires.
