I didn’t think this was real at first but apparently it was which makes you wonder how any business would think this is a great idea. It turned out that PayPal sent out an updated acceptable user policy agreement which is normal practice for many when something changes. Most people ignore it too as it doesn’t usually affect the average person much. But in this case the company stated they can take up to $2500 out of your account if you promote what they deem as misinformation as an example.
You can read the terms where apparently it says the user must refrain from “sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials that, in PayPal’s sole discretion, (a) are harmful, obscene, harassing, or objectionable” which would imply if they don’t like it then they would reserve the right to take up to $2500 from you. How crazy is that? Imagine if it is a sticky topic such as a religion where whoever oversees PayPal believes their religion is the right one and everything else is “misinformation” to the point here they will take money for everyone who is a nonbeliever.
Or can you imagine if PayPal was friends with a company where they clearly have a financial incentive to promote their business ally. However, if someone on the outside criticizes that company then theoretically PayPal could say in their discretion that guy is lying and fine him $2500. I have no clue how companies like these would think this is a great idea. To my knowledge the company has acknowledge this change but stated It as released by accident. So fortunately, this won’t be a thing currently.
That didn’t stop people from calling them out while many are in the process of moving out their funds and all too. These types of businesses should stick to being neutral while providing a service like a telecom in my opinion.
