Often times people are given the decision by a company to get the promotion of their dreams within the company they work for. As an example, becoming a manager of their very own store or a highly coveted executive role. Immediately you would take it correct? But sometimes these promotions would mean the individual has to physically relocate their home in order to work wherever it may be. For example, a new store opening in a different province. As a result, many times people don’t take the offer.
So today I was talking to a person that made me think of this topic again. I asked if he always chose to do the current line of work that he does from the beginning. Like most people he mentioned one thing led to another as his original goal was in something else. From the sounds of it too he was actually doing pretty well. So why would he stop? Apparently he had conversations with people where the general consensus was if he ever wants to work on the truly big and meaningful roles then he would literally need to move. With that he decided he didn’t want to relocate to attempt that.
That really makes you think if you are in a limbo as to whether or not what you are doing is truly what you want to do. Would it be fair to say if you aren’t willing to relocate and assuming your lifestyle can still be similar if not better with the move then what you are doing isn’t truly what it is that you want to do? It’s almost like a quick straightforward question to help you decide what career or business you should be doing. In life those opportunities can often come at the most unexpected times where you have to be ready to take them as well.
There is the tricky factor if you have a family. But I suppose that is something that should be thought out too before you choose your career as some require you to be on the road constantly as an example.
