I was actually surprised to today where while passing by Science World there appeared to be a Dragon Boat race of sort. I initially heard the event was cancelled for the first year ever due to the FIFA event conflicts and so I was wondering why this was here. Apparently, it was simply a smaller event that is common each year which means they will still lose the streak of holding a festival each year.
That makes you wonder when it comes to traditions like these would you be willing to go crazy just to maintain that tradition? For example, let’s pretend they did have the option to host the event elsewhere but it would cost them maybe $100,000 to do so. Would you desperately try and find ways to do that or would you just skip it and do it next year?
I know for many superstitions plays a role in these types of events where one feels they must do it. I can imagine for a business though it’s just about the numbers many time. But would you host say a tiny event for the sake of continuing too? Reminds m of the pandemic time where people were doing things like Polar Bear swims in their bathtub or small lakes for the sake of continuing the tradition even though it wasn’t a massive beach event like normal. I would be inclined to try and continue the tradition with that mindset versus having to match it to previous year’s scale. It just feels more appropriate too as we need to constantly find solutions to problems.
