I noticed recently that the grocery store No Frills decided to have this promotion again where they created this little online game called Aisles of Glory where it’s a simplistic game of simply trying to collect items without hitting objects. The reward for playing is t hat the company will give you PC points where by the looks of it you can get 1000 points per day or so. That’s basically about $1. Doesn’t sound like much, but it can add up and I know there are a ton of people who would buy things they don’t need just for 200 points as an example. So why not get a for free this way?
Now you have to wonder what the company gets by offering this and the answer should be pretty clear as you are pretty much plastered with items from their current flyers which acts as advertisement in hopes to get you to buy items. As well, I was thinking more long term how if they kept using this game it could be a means to generating new customers where even people who don’t normally shop at No Frills would be inclined to check it out after playing the game if they so happened to get free reward points. Similar to getting free coupons and visiting places you normally wouldn’t.
Making a simple video game isn’t exactly a common idea for a company to pursue. But would it be a good marketing investment as it requires people to be engaged with your product versus say blasting some ads where you hope people will notice and take action?
