I recently read some articles on how the Canadian Armed Forces have been struggling to recruit people in order to maintain stable operations and of course the question is why are people not wanting to even consider joining? One point that was kind of interesting was how money was thrown in where if you want o attract more people then simply offer more compensation. People then countered that by saying they would never risk their health and life just for more money.
That got me thinking because I still remember a person telling me before that he worked at a construction job knowing that he would probably hurt his physical health. However, he knew as well that he would make more faster than say a fast food job where he can buy his mom a condo quicker this way. In the end it was indeed what happened where he got money faster in exchange for things like some lifelong backpain. But to him the trade off was worth it.
So whenever I hear people say they will never do dangerous types of jobs it makes you wonder if there is always a price that people would be willing to do so. Although in general, there are a lot of people who do dangerous jobs because they really want to help others as an example such as a fire fighter. So many times it just isn’t about money too.
