Today I was at a parade for the Chinese New Years which consisted of a lot of choreographed events as well as giving away a ton of free stuff. It’s common tradition to give away money too and were kids sure getting a lot of it. People were handing out lucky red envelopes where many of them had actual money in it. Kids of course just kept getting more and more as the day went by and the parents were like personal banks.
It made me reflect back on how I learned to save money as during times like these I often preferred to save the money I got. Of course others didn’t view it the same as they quickly spent it on candy and such. I also heard parents would either tell their kids now they can buy all the treats they want with it whereas some of them seem to just allow the kid to decide what to do.
I have no doubt that what the parents say has an influence in it all. Like for myself I often heard how much my parents stressed out about money so it made me want to save. Whereas if they constantly told me to buy things I probably would. It really does add up too. Don’t underestimate how much money even a kid can have if they learn to manage their money wisely. Of course you do want to have fun as a kid, But make saving money an option in their mind too to give them the chance to try both paths, so to speak.
