Well, this was interesting from a business point of view as apparently talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has gotten into a lot of trouble for implying that the shooter of Charlie Kirk in the US supported the US president where information that has been released in recent times shows the complete opposite. Therefore, people were calling him out and it went as far as networks refusing to air his show and ultimately it is now temporarily cancelled by the looks of it.
The first topic that this generated was whether or not this was a freedom of speech issue. However, the one that caught my attention is that allegedly the executives were already thinking of replacing Jimmy Kimmel months ago and so this situation, if true, just made it easier to get rid of him as this was a legitimate PR crisis. It made me think how this happens a lot.
It’s like the stereotypical example of companies that want to fire someone but can’t as they need something big to terminate one with just cause. So, the first opportunity they see they will jump on it. That isn’t too far fetched if that is the case here. Although, there are other reports that it’s just business politics as the networks need to be on the good side of regulators. Either way, I don’t think the network themselves thought it was so bad at first otherwise they would have acted on their own accord.
