This was a funny story today as a person buzzed in a delivery worker for a package where he was delivering multiple parcels in the apartment. He ends up going to the floor that the person answered first but refused to actually give her the package. The delivery guy’s reasoning was even though she was right there he had to go to the too floor and work his way down. Keep in mind he was already there and there were apparently onlookers that found it odd too.
There is really no explanation other than he was trying to follow procedures by the book I would assume even though it would be more sensible to give the person the package there. To be fair, there are a lot of companies that insist people must follow everything to a tee otherwise they can risk getting fired for not following procedures. But this is kind of an example of not empowering people to make decision that can be best for business huh?
There needs to be a balance in creating procedures for consistent results while enabling people to use common sense and logic to adapt to various situations for the better. There is a possibility that the person in charge is simply out of touch as well with how things are on the ground per se.
