Recently I was reading all this news about data breaches where the company in the spotlight was Google as apparently its platform Google plus had a security breach where millions of people could have had their data compromised where they were knowingly aware of the issue but never made a statement about it. Usually for these types of sites too they require you to list a ton of personal information just to register.
That got me thinking as I know many people who just give fake information to register in case such a compromise happens. For example, while one person would use their real name they often give fake details such as their date of birth or specific details such as the city they live in. This is really common for people who register to do online surveys for rewards normally.
But it makes you wonder if giving false details that are unnecessary is a wise decision as many times from the user point of view those details are to verify that it is really you in the case you need to do things such as recovering your password. A lot of applications often use that information as marketing data to sell you stuff as well.
