Charging People You Know For Advice

One benefit of knowing people who work in say higher positions or have experience in an industry is that you can often rely on them to give you valuable tips and insights as you grow your career or business. At the same time, there was a topic on how people refuse to give it for free even for people they know because if they get it free then they won’t value it. For example, imagine a young adult just starting out and taking for granted the advice and resources that are given to them and they always just assume it would be there. Versus those who have to pay hundreds of dollars an hour to get that same support.

Therefore, the argument is you should always charge people consultation fees as an example so that one you won’t be taken advantage of and two the recipient will take it more seriously. Kind of a tricky topic as in many cultures family as an example is expected to help one another in any way they can since technically their gain should be yours too in a sense.

It could also relate to the topic on how some billionaires refuse to give their kids any of their wealth as they want them to earn everything by themselves. I think the real factor as implied is whether or not one has grown to a point where they truly value other people’s time and money when requesting for say aid. With that said, you usually only learn that by going through life without say the gifts from others. If I knew for certain the person demonstrates the work ethic and commitment then I wouldn’t mind personally giving free advice.
