Ever hear the phrase on how you should be careful on who’s toes you step on while going up as you’ll meet those same people while walking back down? Essentially, you should try and be nice to everyone. Like those stereotypical stories of the nerd at school that got picked on to then become the boss of the bully. But this came up recently as there was a high-ranking executive that swayed passed the lower-level workers per se and immediately always just gravitated towards greeting executives or other potential partners.
I’m actually surprised there are still executives like that as simply saying hi to all your departments probably takes a few seconds and can have a lasting impact in regards to making people feel values to not only work harder but to potentially stay with the company despite others who may be offering more. Most large companies even have things like a newsletter signed by the top management which can kind of achieve the same thing as well.
Don’t take people for granted when you are in a position do to even a little bit in these cases. Imagine being able to grow and sustain talent just by saying hi and thank you as an example. It’s usually ironically what people teach employees to say to customers as the personal touch adds so much.
