This got me thinking as I was researching about a company that proudly advertises itself as a Canadian company which I would imagine should encourage local people to shop with them. Their main operations are done purely online it seems which enables them to reach people everywhere a well. That’s where it got interesting as I was reading bad reviews for the company based on the fact that they charge customers in US dollars. That made people upset as they thought a Canadian company would charge in Canadian dollars as many were surprised at being charged more than what they thought the items would cost.
If this was a physical store operation, then there is no way they wouldn’t charge in Canadian dollars. But because they operate online maybe they feel that people will be used to paying in US funds as a lot of sites do. That made me wonder if one should advertise that they are proudly Canadian though as I can see the conflict there for the consumer. A lot of large businesses like Amazon do have separate sites for each country which would be the smarter choice in my opinion.
That way, people would be more inclined to think you are simply just listing the price in their local currency. You can still say charge say the US dollar amount that you desire without the perception that you are simply using the proudly Canadian tag as a sales pitch in a sketchy way.
