With all this news recently of the company Facebook getting so much bad press about its business practices in regards to addiction one topic that has come up a lot is how the platform has been banning and censoring people if they talk about topics that they do not like. It could be one hundred percent factual but regardless they will still ban anyone for certain subject matters.
That got me thinking as to why they would do that and one thing that came to mind is that maybe they are trying to demonstrate they can regulate people so that the government doesn’t have to as there are constant stories about the business being regulated. By the looks of it too it doesn’t seem to be favouring the company as it is making their users not trust them while at the same time it seems like the government is going after them still.
It makes you wonder a business should you ever try and regulate your customers who are using your products or services as if you are the government? Another example would be if you bought a vehicle it would have company restrictions on where you can and can’t drive as a way for them to say to the government that they are the responsible manufacturer and should be left alone. Almost seems like a very risky business thing to do.
I think the only safe thing is guidelines such as how the video game industry formed their own rating system so that people know if it is appropriate for kids. I can only imagine creating locks and passwords where everyday you need to verify it through the company in order to play an offline item would be too much.
