Recently I was trying to catch up to see how a person was doing with their business ambitions as it has been almost over a year since he mentioned he was trying to start one. He initially wanted to find people to join him but for the most part everyone didn’t want to be a founder per se but would be willing to help in some capacity once the person actually gets things rolling. As it turned out he still hasn’t done anything yet with the reason being no one wanted to join him. So that made me wonder, should you always be able to do the business all by yourself before even thinking of bringing others in?
One example was how there was another person that was actually getting into the exact same field and industry as him but he actually did start something. Sure enough it was all by himself. I think for a small business you should be able to run everything by yourself. It’s only when you have the wheels going and you want to leverage your time that you should start essentially investing your money to get more time to do other things like growing the business more.
Of course there is the argument that if you are starting a company where you need people of various expertise to do so then you are forced to start it with a team. But in many sole proprietor types of businesses that’s usually not true as I find people use the finding a partner factor as more of an excuse to not put in the work to get things going. If you can’t motivate yourself to do it with or without others I would think you should solve that first before bringing others in.
For a small business too I would imagine being able to do things on your own can be a savior should things happen such as a person quits or can’t work for whatever reason where you must take full control of the operations.
