To Worry or Not To Worry About Minor Fee Increases

financial literacy

I often use public transit as I find for my current needs it gets me to where I need most of the time and I save a lot of money. This month though the fee has increased by 10 cents per ticket. Now with it being 10 cents that doesn’t sound much where even I for the most part have just ignored the increase and treated the expense like normal. It made me think though, should I be more worried about it?

It’s kind of odd as when you think about these minor increases we often make a big deal about when shopping for things. For example, seeing one grocery store sell virtually the same product as the other for 10 cent cheaper can often result in people buying a bunch to save money for the future as it adds up. So it kind of makes you wonder why we wouldn’t treat the extra expense the same in terms of making sure you re-balance for it and all.

The only real thing I can think of for myself is that it comes down more to how this is kind of an essential so you can’t exactly say barter It down or anything. But on the extreme case if we were to use the same mindset like with the grocery shopping I would be researching into different ways of traveling as opposed to just settling. Generally speaking I often find it’s bad to not adjust your expenses in this case as opposed to just acting as if everything is the same.

The other way to think about it too is that if I have to spend an extra 10 cents and still want to use this then I should have to think of a way to make an extra 10 cents too per se to balance things out.
