There was a ton of news here lately about strict new guidelines that business must abide by. Specifically nightclubs and banquets where health officials have imposed rules where they must be closed at around 10pm and restaurants should cease to service alcohol. The rationale for this is apparently COVID-19 cases have been increasing in venues such as restaurants and so this should theoretically discourage people from going at times that are often most profitable for businesses. It should also make people not want to hang out at night.
So with that a lot of businesses are trying to plead for these laws to be changed as it is hurting their ability to stay in business. I know things like drinks and desserts can often be the main money maker for a lot of restaurants as an example. I would imagine this would be almost like a scenario where people say flu season is coming because of the colder weather. So to protect people imagine retailers being ordered to close during the winter. Like there the Christmas time is often the most profitable year which they need to balance everything.
What would you do there? You could adapt such as laying off staff, introduce different service offerings or simply close shop. Interestingly enough it seems like a lot of small businesses are opting to try and change the laws instead. Would you ever do that to keep your business afloat?
