Weighing The Cost of Repairing To Fixing It Yourself

Recently for one of my portable devices the hinge broke where as a result you can’t exactly open and close the lid as it simply won’t stay up. I was looking at the company’s official repair options and cost wise it seemed like it could range up to $70. To put this in perspective too, I could buy a new and more modern day version for like $140.

In these cases if the repair cost sounds ridiculous to the point where it’s better to just get something new I actually dare to just try and fix the problem myself. The alternative is to just throw it recycle it or sell it cheap to whoever else wants to try and fix it. So, I of course decided to try and fix it. To me it just seemed the plastic pieces just literally snapped off where if you use something strong enough you could literally fit the parts back together like a piece of lego.

I did just that and invested in some strong glue. Not surprisingly, it works. Total budget was like one dollar and of course with a lot of reservations beforehand. But it was kind of funny to show how much money you can save at times by trying to fix things yourself. Of course I wouldn’t personally try this on things that require advance knowledge of. But many times things like this can be relatively easy if you try. Save a lot of money too.
