There has been a lot of news recently with ride sharing services such as Uber where full time drivers are going as far as initiating a labor strike of sort as they want better pay in order to survive. While there are a ton of support for these people there are also a large group of people who don’t care and so the services seem to be running as usual. I guess you can say many see it as an opportunity for them to make more money by doing the work that others aren’t.
But this brought up the topic how companies like Uber were never intended to be a full time income as it was meant more for people who own a vehicle and wish to make some extra money on the side. For example, you are driving home and this person asks for a ride that is literally on your way. So why not make some extra money? With that perspective people are saying it is ludicrous to treat gigs like these as if you are working full time as an employee.
In many ways I tend to agree that these gigs should be treated more as an extra side income where if it make sense for your current lifestyle then why not make some extra money? Living a lifestyle purely on contract job gigs is a thing for many people nowadays. But to survive I would imagine people would have to do multiple jobs for various companies. Like here imagine doing an Uber job ride where at the same time you are doing a food delivery call as well. It just seems too unstable to try and force a business to treat you like a full time employee.
