Giving Older Barbers The Chance As Well

Today, I needed a haircut, but my regular spot was closed, so I decided to explore the area and try somewhere new. After looking online, I ended up in Chinatown. I actually used to get my hair cut there as a kid, but I hadn’t been back in years. I was surprised to see how much cheaper the barbershops are compared to most places. While many spots now charge thirty to fifty dollars for a basic haircut, here they’re still only charging around fifteen dollars.

As I walked around, I noticed a lot of the barbers were older gentlemen. Normally, you might wonder if an older barber’s style would feel outdated, but since I just needed a simple cut, I decided to give one a try. There was definitely a bit of a language barrier, but it wasn’t a big deal for me since I could communicate with him. As he was cutting my hair, it actually made me think that older barbers might actually be better in some ways because of all their experience working with different types of hair.

He did a solid job. What surprised me most was when he pulled out a straight razor blade to clean up the edges. Most places just use clippers and scissors these days, so seeing the razor was a nice touch. I think he wanted to give me a cleaner, sharper look since I was younger. Overall, it was definitely worth it. He only charged me less than fifteen dollars, but I gave him twenty as a tip.

It was a good reminder that even if someone looks older, if they have the experience, they deserve a chance. Sometimes you’re pleasantly surprised.
