There was a lot of news here recently on how Amazon in Canada is preparing to aggressively enter the grocery market which ultimately means competition for the traditional supermarkets. Of course at the moment this will be for pre-packaged stuff only it seems. The interesting thing about this news is how I have been reading that many people are cynical of the notion that a company like that would ever offer fresh produce as that is something you need to go to the actual stores for.
I don’t know about others, but to my knowledge there are already a lot of companies that do this already where it isn’t really a shocker. The main stipulation I see is that they all have an order delivery deadline when it comes to fresh produce. For the most part too it is a lot more expensive than simply buying the items in-person. The price is the main thing I am curious as to how a company intends to make that competitive online. Either way, it might make for some interesting price matching scenarios for other types of groceries with more competition.
I know before a lot retail stores refused to price match online stores only to now say they will as those companies started to gain market-share.
