I guess the Canadian dollar is continuing to get higher. As a result, I am reading all these articles about people who are going to go south of the border for either a shopping spree or purchasing more luxurious trip packages. The first thing that jumped on my mind in reading comments like that is how with that route you are pretty much in a very similar financial situation despite the extra wealth you are getting and could be using it to move yourself to even a better position.
It’s almost like saying if your food bill was usually about $10 a day and all of a sudden you get an extra $20 a day for whatever reason, you then decide that you may as well have caviar everyday now. I know money is meant to be spent in the long run, but is it sensible to actually find ways to spend it just because you have it?
For me, it’s like if I am used to eating one apple a day as that is all the tree I had was able to grow, if all of a sudden it grew three apples a day it seems kind of silly to just say I must eat three a day now. Or the crazy example would be the tree now grows thirty apples a day. Immediately my thoughts would be “What can I do with all these extra apples to get benefits in other ways?†Example, trade it for other goods with others, sell the excessive ones for money so that I can buy other things, etc.
In my opinion, if you always end up at the exact same figure financially in scenarios like these then maybe it’s time to look if you are over indulging. Otherwise getting new job promotions or landing a profitable account won’t really change much for you in the end as it’s like you are always finding ways to get back to ground zero.
