So Canada day is coming up and when I asked certain people on what they planned to do I got the typical responses such as some people saying they were going out for dinner, watching fireworks, staying home, etc. There was one response that was interesting to me as the person said he was staying home solely for the fact that he feels that spending money to celebrate say victories or special occasions are one of the biggest money wasters there are.
I guess a common topic that I heard where people have expressed a similar mentality when it came to celebrating an important day is a wedding where many people believe that simple and straight to the point is better than spending say $20,000 in one day. Financially it just doesn’t make much sense to blow a huge chunk of your income on a one day party. Others may argue that if you are celebrating something then it just seems a little odd that you wouldn’t be carefree financially for the day.
I suppose it all comes down to whether or not you are celebrating in a way where you need to appease to others to help spark up the atmosphere. Can you imagine celebrating birthdays at this day in age with no presents or even items like a cake for the sake of saving money? While one side of me would say that the person is so darn frugal to a fault the other part of me would say that you have to be very confident and contempt with life in a positive way to go through your days like that.
