All that news about the Telegram founder getting arrested brought up a lot of interesting topics on why officials are cracking down on that platform versus the other ones that seem to have the same if not more questionable content it? Well, one theory was that a lot of platforms have agreed to adjust their business to allow say someone bigger to dictate things like moderation and so it’s almost like agreeing to help a huge gang in order to have that protection to keep running your business.
That’s an interesting thought if true as many times people who are smaller and don’t have a huge presence will feel the need to simply surrender control just for a chance to make it big. I guess a scary example would be how many people would allow themselves to be abused by a high-powered executive as they feel it’s the only way to get those opportunities that they need to grow. If they don’t, the executive could use their influential power to shut them down.
On a more common example, it could be a smaller business having to keep things to themselves if they know someone bigger is doing unethical business practices. Because even if that company is in the wrong they have enough power to harm the smaller company financially. I suppose it’s the darker side to going into business yourself where it happens all the time but rarely do you see people talk about it.
