Today I was reading how a person was looking for a basic daily helper where it sounded fairly straight forward. Help with errands, aid in travelling to various appointments, etc. It seemed like for months the person was posting everywhere though and got no luck. Afterwards, they seemed to have changed their tactic and adjusted the pay a bit to offer more. Nor surprisingly, they got way more requests afterwards.
It gets you to think as if you are trying to acquire the best talent it can often come down to offering the right compensation as just spending all your time and energy posting a low paying job everywhere will likely cost you more. Companies usually complain it’s hard to attract and keep talent as well. In many cases, a bad compensation plan is usually a key culprit.
I’m sure in a business you always want to spend as less as possible. But when it comes to acquiring the best long-term talent saving a few dollars to automatically eliminate the highly qualified people that expect a better wage may not be the best strategy. Especially if that means you have to keep searching where all that wasted time simply isn’t a good trade off.
