While looking at some statistics yesterday for two pet projects I have been working on the first thing that came to mind was how one item was doing exceedingly well considering I did very little if anything to try and promote it. As a result you can’t help to think if you should just scrap everything else while simply placing all your attention to what appears to be working better.
It’s usually not so straight forward though and as the creator you tend to be a little hesitant to throw away any of your creations if you believe in it. I guess an example would be a person who owns and runs a restaurant. Imagine there is this one dish item that you put some much effort and sophistication in which you really think should do well but in reality the most popular item at your place is simply frozen food that you pop in the oven or microwave which requires very little effort that anyone can do. Like that I know most people would have way too much pride to just go with what the numbers tell you.
Instead of just abandoning one for another I usually use scenarios like these as an opportunity to study why it is the way it is. For example, it could tell you a lot where maybe you are targeting the wrong people. At the same time, maybe placing your creations in different places would yield different results. I think another popular and wise route too is if you find there is one thing that is super popular then it may be good to temporarily put all your focus into that and so when you become bigger you can leverage that success into your other work.
