Saving Your Best Work Now or Later

I am looking over some results of a passion project I have been doing which has been gaining a lot of traction which is nice. At this rate, I can simply let it grow as is and I still have a lot of completing work to show later on for it. One reason I was holding back from just releasing everything right away is I thought doing so may lessen the impact if it doesn’t get a huge buzz on day one.

Imagine having a movie made where your audience base isn’t quite there yet and so you are waiting until you have a strong base of hundreds of thousands of users before releasing your best work. Because many times the initial launch buzz can make or break a launch to generate all that word-of-mouth advertising. But the other factor is are you simply wasting time by not just releasing your best to build that base faster as you could literally be waiting forever if not?

Kind of reminds me of that show The Apprentice where for the celebrity editions they often had to raise money through their well-known contacts. Like there, many people held back as they didn’t want to use their big donors so early in the competition. But in many cases, not doing so got them eliminated as they failed to raise more than the other team. So there isn’t a black and white answer to this. It’s more about which path makes the most sense for you?
