Ride Sharing Cost During Transit Strikes

It was official today as transit workers went om strike which meant bus and SeaBus services were unavailable causing a lot of people scrambling to find ways to get to work. For some, the options were to simply take a taxi or use rideshare services such as Uber to the point where it’s better to just phone in “sick” as the cost of travel will be almost equivalent to a day’s work.

There were some interesting examples inline too on how companies like Uber appear to charge premium fees of sort during times where there is more demand. In this example, someone mentioned that a trip that would normally cost about $11 was now hovering around $30. That is a significant increase. Would you blame the company and drivers for wanting to make more during these times?

Fortunately for myself everywhere I usually go can actually be done by walking if necessary where I would have to walk about two hours one way to get to my destination if necessary. I know many people don’t consider that walking distance but for me I have made it a habit to walk as much as possible where if I was caught off guard by this I could still plan my day accordingly. It just means less time to browse around in say supermarkets to check for grocery deals.

If anything, I view it as time most people would have to dedicate for the day working out at a gym as an example. Using those car sharing programs are probably more cost affective I would imagine unless you are doing ridesharing with people you know.
