Putting Most Wanted Products Behind Business Memberships

Vancouver Chandelier

I was reading a lot of articles today that talked about how Best Buy was being criticized for offering customers who purchase their $199 membership the option to purchase an NVIDIA graphics card which is often hard to find still. Or if you do find it people have been jacking up the price to try and make money by reselling it. So the question would be, is it wrong for a company to do this?

I guess ultimately it’s their business and they can do what they wish in that aspect such as a Costco store requiring a membership to purchase items. But I guess when it’s a hard to find item where that policy doesn’t seem to apply to everything else offered in the business that would tend to give people the feeling that they are being taken advantage of.

I suppose it’s one of those scenarios where are the short term profits worth the potential long-term negative PR for such a strategy? Example, if someone feels used the then the first chance they get to shop elsewhere they would.
