The Process of Elimination When It Comes To Discrimination Factors For Work

Usually in a regular job environment when it comes to an interview you are not supposed to tell any personal information that may sway the employer to see you in a different light that is irrelevant to the job. For example, someone’s age or marital status should be irrelevant for a job that deals with fixing computers as an example. I was thinking though as recently a person did ask me these kinds of questions where my immediate response was a “why do you need to know” sort of remark.

The general answer was something along the lines of people will know eventually. While that is true that doesn’t negate the fact often time’s personal information can be used against you in a bias way. Age is a great example as a person was telling me before that regardless of their resume and how they have worked and generated millions of dollars for their investors it seems nowadays people are skeptical of working with the person simply because of their age. The reason being is that if you are too old then theoretically you have no clue what are the hottest trends.

That’s often why whenever I talk to new people for work related items I prefer to leave all of the personal details out. That way you know for sure that if something doesn’t work out it truly was for reasons such as one’s skill and resume. A funny thought is this dog that has been tagging along in some of the hikes I have done. It’s actually a small corgi where its legs are so tiny yet you see it hiking up some pretty large stairs and trails to the peak of the mountain. When people see it they say how cute it is and guess that it is like one year’s old. When they find out it is 8 years old they are dumbfounded on how that is possible.

Like there if you based it on paper stats where you needed a small dog to hike a mountain you would have probably threw that dog’s resume to the garbage bin based on the paper stats of its physical. I would tend to think if a person or organization is truly just looking for someone to do the job then the only information one really needs are the items that actually pertain to the job.
