I have heard of this technique before when it comes to people indulging into some kind of food where they claim they just can’t resist eating so much of it as it is so tasty. Usually people would do things to stop themselves from being tempted in eating that chocolate chip cookie such as locking it up in some kind of jar. But there are some people that simply eat so much of a certain item intentionally where it reaches to the point where they just get sick of it and don’t want to see another for months.
So it was interesting to see people apply this same technique when it comes to spending money such as a person literally spending way too much time at like a mall where eventually everything becomes so boring to just shop for the same stuff that they eventually decide to do outdoor activities like hiking which cost virtually nothing in comparison.
I can’t imagine this being a very safe way to kick the habit of spending too much. Imagine over indulging by going to expensive restaurants as an example where it would probably take a ton of visits where you eventually either get tired of it or generate the curiosity to see if you can make the stuff yourself. I personally think trying to experience more variety is more effective. For myself anyways when you find out you can get the same level of enjoyment from simple things compared to a super expensive option I tend to jus gravitate doing the less expensive stuff as I would rather have fun and have money left over.
