It’s not uncommon for businesses that generate an income through monthly services to want the client to come back even if it meant giving the lackluster support to increase the odds of that happening. For example, it would be like a teacher giving a student half effort guidance so that the person would have to continually go back to them and pay for more lessons.
While I don’t deny some people make a profitable living this way, it makes you wonder how much they are losing by doing this too. With like in the example of the student I’m sure the steady income seems good upfront. However, imagine if the student was taught so well that they were able to venture out and become successful quickly. More likely than not that business will generate more customers as the former student’s success will always be related to that school as well. So it’s free advertising and at the same time the company can use that to increase the worth of their service.
I guess another example I heard of before are dating sites and how it is in a lot of company’s best interest that the customer doesn’t find a mate as they will lose them as an income source. I can imagine how much they actually lose though in the end but trying to make the person reliant on their service.
