Looking For Passion As A Key Trait

I was thinking today about an interesting topic. When you’re trying to find the best people to work with, skills and knowledge are obviously important—you want people who know what they’re doing. That’s often why many companies look for recent graduates, assuming they bring fresh, up-to-date knowledge.

But at the same time, ambition is just as important. Someone can have all the knowledge in the world, but if they lack the desire to be the best, to succeed, and to push themselves further, they might actually underperform compared to someone with less knowledge but more drive. Passion often leads people to learn and achieve more than those who simply rely on their existing knowledge and do the bare minimum.

That’s a lot of companies now hire people who are genuinely excited about the industry or the company itself. These people are easier to mold, more motivated to learn, and more invested in growing with the business. On the other hand, someone who only has the knowledge but doesn’t really care is often just there for a paycheck.

This is also why many companies today put less emphasis on resumes and instead focus on the impression they get during conversations, along with any work samples or side projects that demonstrate both competence and passion.

From my own experience, when you’re truly passionate about something, you pour all your effort into it. Like people say—if you stay up all night working on something and suddenly the next day is here, you’ve probably found your passion. In my opinion, that trait is often a more valuable asset than raw knowledge alone when building a team.
