There is a new computer processor coming out called the AMD 9950X3D which is expected to be in high demand and people are wondering if retailers will be jacking up the price to take advantage of the frenzy while they can. I noticed for one large computer site they are actually bundling it with motherboards and memory which is targeting people looking to build new computers. At the same time, it kind of traps people who just want the processor. I suppose this would discourage scalpers. It makes you think as a business, would you tend to just increase the prices based on demand or force people to buy other items to increase profit?
I’ve seen it both ways where in one instance there was a retail manger that actually deceptively increased the price of a move where people were going to go to the store to buy it as a new release. It was even more expensive then what was advertised on the flyer. However, most people never even bother to check the price and for those who did they simply manually adjusted it. But you can imagine how much extra money the store made.
If I was to maximize profits in this situation, I think the bundle route would be better overall. At least you are trying to offer value still versus literally just charging people more.
