Ignoring High Coupon Vouchers With High Minimum Purchases You Don’t Need

Recently I bought a gift for a family member through the site Groupon where from my research it was actually the cheapest option to get a membership through one of its deals. So that was pretty much my shopping where like most of the time I know what I want and then leave. Because of the purchase I guess the company wanted me to buy more as they gave me a $10 off coupon for me next order. That’s a pretty hefty coupon as there are a ton of deals that are say $12 which would be great. However, upon reading the fine print there was a $30 minimum purchase.

A part of me is saying $10 is a lot of money to save as it feels so wasteful in not using it. At the same time that means I have to spend $20 that I had no intention of spending before which wouldn’t seem wise. This is a type of financial discipline you need to develop where many times just because your coupon is giving you a pretty good discount it should come down to how much are you spending in the end? Like here it would only make sense if I was actually going to get something anyways. But instead I would have to make myself get something that I don’t need which means it better to ignore the coupon.

With that said my next option is to just ask around if anyone had any intent to actually get anything form that site. Free $10 off a $30 purchase coupon. That way everyone benefits.
