Today I was told of a funny example of a person who was completely ignorant about a particular industry that he wanted to work in. He was explaining how he actually got into it, which was interesting because usually, I guess, in this situation, it’s really tightly guarded. You don’t just go up to, for example, a really big company and ask them for a job or something like that.
But in this case, apparently, the person was so green that they were ignorant. They just walked right up to the office, asked the secretary who they should talk to, walked up to the door, and told the person that they wanted to work in that particular field. As you can imagine, the person was completely shocked because this isn’t the process. You’re supposed to, for example, maybe send in a resume, get some type of confirmation, and then have a general meeting. But because of this, for some reason, the executive took a liking to the person and actually took a chance on them.
And funny enough, apparently the person started to generate a lot of profit for the business, so it all worked out. But it’s kind of funny because, again, this is supposed to be a really strict and guarded type of process, where people usually have to get in line. But the fact that he was so ignorant about it basically allowed him to jump the line and essentially be successful at it, so it kind of gets you thinking sometimes. Now, you shouldn’t always just break through all the doors and fences that are set in place, because on the other hand, it could get you banned for life in a lot of places.
But it does show that many times, one’s fear in terms of just starting or trying to get to a certain point is more about themselves. We’re so used to being told you can’t do this or that, whereas in reality, there are just so many ways to get to your destination, and many times it’s actually a lot easier than you think. We’re just psyching ourselves out so much because of the stories we’ve heard, yet there are some people who just don’t care and go for it. It’s almost like walking across a bridge at a really tall height looks really scary, but for people who aren’t looking at the actual height, they’re just crossing the bridge because it looks safe enough, and they’re the ones actually getting the results.
