Goal Versus Task Oriented Bots For Business

This was interesting to think about, as usual when you hire someone to do a job, you give them a basic task and they do it. For example, if you hire them at a retail store, you’ll tell them your job is to either answer customer questions, handle the inventory, clean up the area, so very basic stuff. However, many times for a lot of businesses, the better way to manage that is to empower the employees to do something. Give them some type of goal. For example, your job isn’t necessarily just to help the customer.

A lot of good managers actually give their employees some goals. For example, maybe you want to grow the department, so you put it in their hands where their goal is to hopefully grow sales by a certain amount of dollars, and that actually helps a lot because they feel like it’s their own. And what got me thinking is because with the rise of AI bots, a lot of people are just using them for task-oriented missions. For example, write me this, create that. Whereas a lot of people are saying that’s a mistake, as you should be giving these robots, for example, an actual goal. So instead of just telling them to create, for example, some type of work, you tell them specifically what your goals are, what type of income you want the business to generate per se, and then the bot will actually try to work out the entire plan for you to approve afterwards. And that’s basically how a lot of people have been seeing success so far. They’re not just task-oriented bots, they’re actually trying to accomplish some kind of goal.

Just like a person, if they have a certain dollar amount they need to achieve by a certain amount of time, then they’ll try to find a bunch of solutions to achieve that. And again, a lot of people are finding more success that way, and that’s something to think about. We do this a lot when it comes to people, but when it comes to things like bots, for example, we tend to not think about that in terms of making them goal-oriented. So something to think about, especially if you’re trying to explore it more for your business use.
