I was reading about this story of a TikToker who created a project called “Trademeproject” where she successfully traded a bobby pin for a house. I heard of something like this before where a guy actually traded a paperclip all the way up to a house. This story gets more interesting where instead of settling in the house she decides to give it away to someone else who wishes to trade it for a bobby pin as she continues with the project. To do so, she did a call out for people in need to explain why they need the house and a person was chosen.
This story gets weird though as the winner apparently also got $10,000 and public support to buy her items that she needs for her new home. But something happened as the winner apparently didn’t take care of the home for the short time she was there and never actually fully moved in from what I gather. The excuse that eventually came out later was that the winner mentioned how she was 19 years old and couldn’t really handle all of this. Crazy to many of course.
So, the TikToker took the property back and the person didn’t seem to fight it. However, afterwards the 19 year old made a tiktok video of her own essentially saying how she won the house only to have it taken away. As a result, the trademeproject owner got a lot of backlash until all the details was revealed. This was a good example on how many times you simply can’t help people who aren’t ready. It’s not so much about age per se too as I bet if the person worked 40 hours a week at a young age while still going to school as it is the only way to get their family out of poverty you bet they would have a different mindset when it comes to money and getting a free house.
I know for me, walking over two a hours a day back and forth to get to work at McDonalds definitely makes you not want to just blow your money away while valuing any offers given for faster transportation. This is versus someone who had the benefit of being given a car right away as they likely wouldn’t develop the same appreciation for what they got. This story seems more like a warning for those who have a lot to give as many times there are people who will take it and abuse it. Make sure they are actually ready for it.
